The purpose of this position is provide administration, management, and support across the City's various systems, technologies, and data platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Responsible for the administration, support, planning, and engineering of the City's various applications and ERP systems.
  • Provides day-to-day support on various City networks and data systems.
    • Manages a work order queue and works directly with end users on problem resolution.
  • Diagnoses and resolves problems associated with various City databases and data repositories.
  • Diagnoses and resolves problems associated with City software and applications and ensures scalability and appropriate integration with other systems.
  • Diagnoses and resolves problems associated with the City's phone system.
  • Diagnoses and resolves problems associated with the City's networking devices.
  • Assists in assessing and prioritizing information technology needs.
  • Provides input to long‑range capital improvement plan and implementation strategies.
  • Assists with budget requests for computer hardware and software.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance.
  • Assists and monitors record keeping for warranties and service contracts and inventory.
  • Performs system configuration and performance maintenance routines.
  • Conducts special projects as needed or directed.
  • Assists in budget expenditures with respect to computer equipment, software, etc.
  • Maintains knowledge of a wide variety of computer hardware and software applications and operations and procurement rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

  • Maintains City network and internet connections
  • Diagnoses software and hardware issues
  • Reviews technology-related publications.
  • Conducts studies and analysis for special or major projects.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or 6-8 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Strong background in general systems administration and engineering. Familiar with technically advanced concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
  • Works under general supervision.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Must be able to pass Police Department background and security check.
  • Capacity for confidentiality and privacy must be at a high level.

Desired Skillsets Include:

  • Strong knowledge in relational database administration preferred.
  • Strong SQL administration background preferred.
  • Strong scripting and query writing skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern Microsoft Server and Desktop Operating Systems, Active Directory, Azure, Exchange, and M365 applications.
  • Knowledgeable in web application support, troubleshooting, and administration.
  • Knowledgeable in general systems administration and modern networking practices.
  • Background in managing Cisco and Meraki networking devices preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in modern security practices, tools, and hardware.
  • Background in managing EDR tools, firewalls, and email security systems preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in modern backup and DR solutions.
  • Strong technical writing, verbal communications, and documentation skills.
  • Knowledgeable in MFA technologies and SSO solutions administration.

  • Ability to utilize a variety of advisory and design data and information such as work requests, network management reports, budget reports, calendars, requisitions, purchase orders, hardware/software specifications, requests for proposals, contracts, service agreements, warranties, expense reports, flowcharts, trade journals, non‑routine correspondence, computer languages, program documentation, computer software operating manuals, accounting methods and technical computer hardware/software manuals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring complex and rapid adjustments, such as computer terminals, printers, scanners, concentrators, crimpers, telephone and fax machine.
  • Ability to coordinate eyes, and hands, in performing skilled movements such as rapid keyboard use.
  • Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some lifting.
  • Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors and shapes associated with job‑related objects, materials and tasks.

Environmental Adaptability

  • Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to adverse environmental factors such as repetitive computer keyboard use may cause discomfort and poses little risk of injury.
